Viral Photo of the Metro: Are we ready for the The Big One?
Last Saturday, TV host-blogger-celebrity mom Daphne Oseña-Paez took an aerial photo of Pasig City and shared it on her Facebook page. It has since gathered 24,000+ likes and 5,607 shares.
With our city looking like this, how ready are we for The Big One – the highly anticipated earthquake which is expected to have at least a magnitude 7 intensity? While there have been a few evacuation areas deemed suitable for emergency purposes, this viral photo clearly shows that there are not enough open spaces for everyone to turn into. In an emergency case, an evacuation area should be at best 5 minutes away from the evacuee. If we’ve turned almost all our open spaces into mid-rise or high-rise condominiums and commercial buildings, what do we do now?
There have been some comments on Facebook that claimed that Ms. Oseña-Paez edited or adopted filters into her photo which made it look even bigger and scarier than it originally was. So once again took to Facebook and shared this:
Scared yet? What can we do now? How do we save ourselves, our families, our loved ones, our friends? Who do we turn to?
