Earlier today, news broke out about the Philippine Eagle Pamana getting shot dead. Pamana is a rehabilitated Philippine eagle and was just released into the wild June 12 of this year. The Philippine Egale Foundation (PEF) who found Pamana’s remains stated that its body had a 533 puncture wound and could have died approximately 9 days ago (Aug 10). The Philippine Eagle is considered as a “critically-endangered species” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. While we mourn with the rest of the country on Pamana’s demise (and hope the people responsible behind this are put to jail), we would love to give a dose of hope for humanity with the following inspiring stories.

HONY raises $1.7 million to stop bonded labor in Pakistan

Photographer Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York has shared photos from his journey in Pakistan and showered light upon the plight of Pakistani bonded laborers under their brick industry employers. Stanton set up a fundraiser for the Bonded Labor Liberation Front led by activist Syeda Ghulam Fatima with a target of $100,000. This Man Took His Taxi Driver To A Theme Park Because He’d Never Been

Test engineer Liam Murphy from Cork, Ireland recently visited UAE for work and while on the way to a trip to indoor theme park Ferrari World, he learned that his taxi driver, Shakiha, who has lived in Abu Dhabi for 14 years had never been in the theme park before so he paid for his entrance ticket and invited him along.

Great-Grandmother Helps Feed 200 Children a Day

“We’re all put on Earth to do something…You’re offering hope, love and a lunch. They need to know that somebody cares,” great-grandmother Phyllis Shaughnessy said about her act of kindness. When the poverty-stricken area of North Beach in Gray’s Harbor County school district didn’t have enough funds to provide free or reduced-price lunches for kids over summer break, Shaughnessy rounded up volunteers to help her make 200 free lunches for kids in the area.

Local community saves 5-year-old’s birthday after no one shows up

When Lauren Sassmannshausen threw a party for her 5-year-old daughter, only a few adults  were able to attend so she posted an open invite on Facebook to her local community and dozens of people, including a number of children showed up to help share the birthday water slide and pool party fun.

Lebron James announces full scholarships to University of Akron for his “I Promise” kids

NBA Player Lebron James, through the LeBron James Family Foundation, partnered with the University of Akron to provide kids who complete high school and the Wheels for Education Promise program a full scholarship to finish whatever course they decide to take in college at University of Akron. LeBron shares that college isn’t a realistic future for many and  that “kids need to see a finish line.”
